HISTORIA
Había una vez un tigre sin color. Todos sus tonos eran grises, blancos y negros. Tanto, que parecía salido de una de esas películas antiguas. Su falta de color le había hecho tan famoso, que los mejores pintores del mundo entero habían visitado su zoológico tratando de colorearlo, pero ninguno había conseguido nada: todos los colores y pigmentos resbalaban sobre su piel.
Entonces apareció Chiflus, el pintor chiflado. Era un tipo extraño que andaba por todas partes pintando alegremente con su pincel. Mejor dicho, hacía como si pintara, porque nunca mojaba su pincel, y tampoco utilizaba lienzos o papeles; sólo pintaba en el aire, y de ahí decían que estaba chiflado. Por eso les hizo tanta gracia a todos que Chiflus dijera que quería pintar al tigre gris.
Al entrar en la jaula del tigre, el chiflado pintor comenzó a susurrarle a la oreja, al tiempo que movía su seco pincel arriba y abajo sobre el animal. Y sorprendiendo a todos, la piel del tigre comenzó a tomar los colores y tonos más vivos que un tigre pueda tener. Estuvo Chiflus mucho tiempo susurrando al gran animal y retocando todo su pelaje, que resultó bellísimo.
Todos quisieron saber cuál era el secreto de aquel genial pintor. Chiflus explicó cómo su pincel sólo servía para pintar la vida real, que por eso no necesitaba usar colores, y que había podido pintar el tigre con una única frase que susurró a su oido continuamente: "en sólo unos días volverás a ser libre, ya lo verás".
Y viendo la tristeza que causaba al tigre su encierro, y la alegría por su libertad, los responsables del zoo finalmente lo llevaron a la selva y lo liberaron, donde nunca más perdió su color.

Well, it would be more accurate to say that he moved his brush about, as if to paint; because he never put any paint on his brush, and neither did he use canvas or paper. He painted the air, and that's why they called him Van Cough. So, when he said he wanted to paint the colourless tiger, everyone had a good laugh.
When entering the tiger's cage he began whispering in the animal's ear, and moving his dry brush up and down the tiger's body. And to everyone's surprise, the tiger's skin started to take on colour, and these were the most vivid colours any tiger had ever had. Van Cough spent a long time whispering to the animal, and making slight adjustments to his painting. The result was truly beautiful.
Everyone wanted to know what the painter's secret was. He explained to them that his brush was only good for painting real life, and that to do that he needed no colours. He had managed to paint the tiger using a phrase he kept whispering in its ear: "In just a few days you will be free again, you shall see."
And seeing how sad the tiger had been in his captivity, and how joyful the tiger now seemed at the prospect of freedom, the zoo authorities transported him to the forest and set him free, where never again would he lose his colour.

Por ella pudo ver al mono el tiempo justo para ver cómo salía de la habitación, así que le siguió hasta otra pequeña estancia, pero tampoco llegaba a ver bien, y tuvo que seguirle con la cabeza por uno de los pasillos, y luego otra habitación, y luego otra.... Hasta que Jamina no pudo seguirle más ¡Manuato había dado tantas vueltas, que la jirafa tenía ahora un enorme enredo en su largo cuello!
Entonces todo el resto de animales, conocedores del engaño, aparecieron para hacer ver a la arrepentida jirafa lo irritante de su comportamiento. Y ante la vergüenza que ella misma sintió, decidió que a partir de entoces dedicaría su largo cuello a cosas más útiles que tratar de avergonzar a los demás.

In Chipper Jungle, everything was peaceful and happy until Jemima turned up. Jemima was an extremely tall giraffe, with a long bendy neck like some rubber plant. She got on everyone's nerves because she was just the nosiest and most gossipy animal anyone had ever known. What made it worse was that, thanks to her height and her long, bendy neck, there was no den or nest beyond her reach. There she'd be, always sticking her head in.
She observed everything, and made sure everyone knew what was going on. This annoyed so many animals that they had a meeting and decided to teach her a lesson.
At that time Big Bongo, the most important of all the monkeys, decided to move to an old abandoned den, and he did the place up until it was the cosiest home in the whole jungle. Jemima couldn't help her curiosity, and one night she tiptoed over there and approached the bedroom window. The window was open and she stuck her head inside. She was just on time to see Big Bongo leaving the bedroom. So, Jemima pushed her neck further in so that she could follow him to the next room. It was dark inside and she couldn't see very well, but she followed him down a corridor, and then into another bedroom, and then another...
Until at last Jemima couldn't follow him any more. She had run out of neck. Big Bongo had ran all around his house, and now Jemima's neck was in one enormous tangle.
Then all the other animals, who were in on the trick, came over to the house to let Jemima know what they thought of her irritating nosiness. She felt so embarrassed that she decided from then on that she would use her long neck for more constructive tasks than poking into the lives of others.

Un niño, una niña y un brujo con poca magia
HISTORIA
Sara y Marcos eran unos cotillas de campeonato. Siempre andaban espiando y curioseando todo de todos, y disfrutaban aireando cuanto descubrían, que era mucho y normalmente no muy bueno. A menudo les habían explicado la importancia de respetar la intimidad de los demás, pero ellos respondían diciendo "si no tuvieran nada que ocultar, no les importaría. Nosotros no tenemos nada que ocultar, y por eso nos da igual".
Hasta que un pobre brujo con pocos poderes mágicos, pero muy mala uva se cruzó en su camino. Y después de que le destrozaran uno de sus trucos baratos, decidió vengarse con un extraño conjuro que hizo reir a los niños antes de dejar el lugar.
Sin embargo, al día siguiente, mientras estaban en clase, el altavoz de las emergencias sonó con la voz del brujo:
- ¡Din, don, dinnnn! ¡din, don , dinnnn! ¡Atención! Sara Márquez piensa que Roberto es un chico muy guapo y le gustaría ser su novia. ¡din, don, dinnnn!
¡Menuda vergüenza pasó Sara!; jamás le había dicho nada a nadie y se puso roja como un tomate... Se armó un gran revuelo que cesó cuando poco después volvió el altavoz con sus avisos:
- ¡Atención!, ahora Marcos Mendoza está pensando que Antonio Muñoz es un gorila tonto y gordo, y que si él fuera más grande le daría una buena paliza... ¡din, don din!
Y el pobre Marcos tuvo que salir corriendo y esconderse para evitar que Antonio le diera un zurra de espanto...
Y así, durante todo el día, el odioso altavoz no dejó de contar los pensamientos más intimos de los dos cotillas, y cada minuto que pasaba su vergüenza y sus problemas iban en aumento. Hasta que la pareja se plantó delante del altavoz, llorando de ira y de rabia, pidiéndole que dejara de airear sus pensamientos.
- Si no tenéis nada que ocultar, no debería importaros - respondió el brujo. al otro lado del altavoz.
- ¡Claro que no tenemos nada que ocultar! - respondieron- ¡pero eso son cosas privadas! - volvieron a protestar.
Entonces se miraron uno al otro, y comprendieron que lo que ellos mismos llevaban haciendo toda la vida era un ejemplo de lo que el brujo les estaba haciendo pasar a través del altavoz. Y tras prometer no volver a cotillear acerca de las cosas privadas de la gente, el brujo anuló el hechizo y se despidió de todos. Y en cada uno de los chicos que lo vivió, el recuerdo de aquella mañana de risa sirvió para que recordaran siempre la importancia de respetar las cosas privadas de cada uno.

Un niño, una niña y un brujo con poca magia
Sarah and Mark were a pair of champion gossips. They were always spying, and poking their noses into anything and everything. And how they loved to broadcast what they had discovered - which was a lot, and very little of it good. People had often explained to them the importance of respecting others' privacy, but they would just reply, "If they had nothing to hide then they wouldn't mind. We have nothing to hide, so we couldn't care less."
Then, one day, a poor, bad-tempered wizard with very few powers, crossed their path. Sarah and Mark managed to break one of the wizard's tricks, so the wizard decided to get his revenge by using a strange spell which would give all the children a good laugh, before he moved on. The next day, when Sarah and Mark were sitting in class, the emergency speaker came on. It was the wizard's voice. He said,
"Ding dong dinnnng! Ding dong dinnnng! Attention! Sarah Jones thinks Robert is very good-looking, and she'd like to be his girlfriend. Ding dong dinnnng!”
How embarrassed Sarah felt! She hadn't told anyone how she felt about Robert, and she turned as red as a ripe tomato. There was quite a commotion in class, and the noise only subsided when the speaker came on again:
"Attention! Right now, Mark Smith is thinking that Anthony Wilson is a fat and rather foolish gorilla, and that if he - Smith - were a bit bigger, he'd give Wilson a seriously good beating. Ding dong dinnnng!"
Mark dearly wanted to run out of the classroom to hide.
And so it went. Throughout the day the speaker would come on and reveal the innermost thoughts of our two little gossips. With every passing minute their trouble and embarrassment were mounting. So much so, that eventually the two of them went over to the speaker, crying with anger, and demanding that the voice stop reporting their thoughts.
"If you have nothing to hide then it shouldn't bother you," answered the wizard.
"Of course we have nothing to hide!" they answered, "but those are private thoughts!" And their complaints continued.
After a while the complaints petered out, and Sarah and Mark looked at each other. They had finally realised that what the wizard was now doing was exactly what they themselves had been doing all their lives. After they promised not to gossip any more about other people's private lives, the wizard removed the spell and said goodbye to them all.
And every child in that class long remembered that hilarious morning at school, where they were given a most effective lesson on the importance of respecting others' privacy.

HISTORIA
Tere Timbalitos era una niña alegre y artista con un gran sueño: llegar a tocar la batería en un grupo musical. Pero para conseguirlo había un gran obstáculo: Tere tenía que practicar mucho para hacerlo bien, pero justo al lado de su casa vivían un montón de ancianitos, muchos de ellos enfermos, en una residencia; y sabía que el ruido de tambores, bombos y platillos podía molestarles muchísimo. Tere era una niña muy buena y respetuosa, y buscaba constantemente la forma de practicar sin molestar a los demás. Así, había intentado tocar en sitios tan raros como un sótano enterrado, una cocina, un desván, o incluso una ducha, pero no había forma, siempre había alguien que se sentía verdaderamente molesto; así que, decidida a ensayar mucho, Tere pasaba la mayor parte del tiempo tocando sobre libros y cajas, y buscando nuevos sitios donde practicar.
Un día, mientras veía un documental de ciencias en la televisión, escuchó que en el espacio, como no había aire, el ruido no se podía transmitir, y decidió convertirse en una especie de astronauta musical. Con la ayuda de muchos libros, mucho tiempo, y mucho trabajo, se construyó una burbuja espacial: era una gran esfera de cristal, en la que una máquina sacaba el aire para hacer el vacío, y en la que sólo estaban su batería y una silla. Tere se vestía con un traje de astronauta que se había fabricado, se metía en la burbuja, pulsaba el de la máquina para sacar el aire, y... ¡se ponía a tocar la batería como una loca!
En muy poco tiempo, Tere Timbalitos, "la astronauta musical", se hizo muy famosa. Acudía tanta gente a verla tocar en su burbuja espacial, que tuvo que poner unos pequeños altavoces para que pudieran escucharla, y poco despúes trasladó su burbuja y comenzó a dar conciertos. Llegó a ser tanta su fama, que desde el gobierno le propusieron formar parte de un viaje único al espacio, y así se convirtió de veras en la auténtica astronauta musical, superando de largo aquel sueño inicial de tocar en un grupo.
Y cuando años después le preguntaban cómo había conseguido todo aquello, se quedaba un rato pensando y decía:
-Si no me hubieran importado tanto aquellos ancianitos, si no hubiera seguido buscando una solución, nada de esto habría ocurrido.

Brenda Bongos was a happy, artistic girl, a girl with one big ambition - to play the drums in a band. But one big obstacle lay in her way. To be good enough to play in a band Brenda had to practice a lot, but she lived next-door to a lot of old people - many of them sick - in a care home. She knew that the sound of beating drums and crashing cymbals would really get on their nerves.
Brenda was a very good, respectful, girl. She always tried to find a way of practicing her drums without bothering other people. So, she had tried playing in the strangest places; a basement, a kitchen, an attic, and even in a shower. But it was no good; there was always someone it would annoy. However, determined to practice as much as she could, Brenda spent most of her time playing on books and boxes, and looking for new places to practice.
One day, while watching a science documentary on TV, she heard that sound cannot travel in space, because there’s no air. At that moment, Brenda Bongos decided to become a sort of musical astronaut.
With the help of a lot of time, a lot of books, and a lot of work, Brenda built a space bubble. This was a big glass ball connected to a machine which sucked out all the air inside. All that would be left inside was a drum kit and a chair. Brenda got into the space suit she had made, entered the bubble, turned on the machine, and...
She played those drums like a wild child!
It wasn't long before Brenda Bongos - 'The Musical Astronaut' - had become very famous. So many people came to see her play in her space bubble that she had to mount a pair of speakers so that everyone could listen to her play. Shortly afterwards she came out of the bubble and started giving concerts. Her fame spread so much that the government proposed that she form part of a unique space journey. Finally, Brenda was a real musical astronaut, and had gone far beyond her first ambition of playing drums in a band.
Years later, when they asked her how she had achieved all this, she thought for a moment, and said,
"If those old people next-door hadn't mattered so much to me, I wouldn't have gone to such lengths to find a solution, and none of this would have ever happened."

El misterioso payaso malabarista

Las faltas de respeto se extienden cuando no se hace nada, y es responsabilidad de todos tratar de evitarlas Un pueblo Un payaso y un niño insolente
HISTORIA
Había una vez un pueblo al que un día llegó un payaso malabarista. El payaso iba de pueblo en pueblo ganando unas monedas con su espectáculo. En aquel pueblo comenzó su actuación en la plaza, y cuando todos disfrutaban de su espectáculo, un niño insolente empezó a burlarse del payaso y a increparle para que se marchara del pueblo. Los gritos e improperios terminaron por ponerle nervioso, y dejó caer una de las bolas con las que hacía malabares. Algunos otros comenzaron a abuchearle por el error, y al final el payaso tuvo que salir de allí corriendo, dejando en el suelo las 4 bolas que utilizaba para su espectáculo.
Pero ni aquel payaso ni aquellas bolas eran corrientes, y durante la noche, cada una de las bolas mágicamente dio lugar a un niño igual al que había comenzado los insultos. Todas menos una, que dio lugar a otro payaso. Durante todo el día las copias del niño insolente anduvieron por el pueblo, molestando a todos, y cuando por la tarde la copia del payaso comenzó su espectáculo malabarista, se repitió la situación del día anterior, pero esta vez fueron 4 los chicos que increparon al payaso, obligándole a abandonar otras 4 bolas. Y nuevamente, durante la noche, 3 de aquellas bolas dieron lugar a copias del niño insolente, y la otra a una copia del payaso.
Y así fue repitiéndose la historia durante algunos días, hasta que el pueblo se llenó de chicos insolentes que no dejeban tranquilo a nadie, y los mayores del pueblo se decidieron a acabar con todo aquello. Firmemente, impidieron a ninguno de los niños faltar ni increpar a nadie, y al comenzar la actuación del payaso, según empezaban los chicos con sus insultos, un buen montón de mayores les impidieron seguir adelante, de forma que el payaso pudo completar su espectáculo y pasar la noche en el pueblo. Esa noche, 3 de las copias del niño insolente desaparecieron, y lo mismo ocurrió el resto de días, hasta que finalmente sólo quedaron el payaso y el niño auténtico.
El niño y todos en el pueblo habían comprobado hasta dónde podía extenderse el mal ejemplo, y a partir de entonces, en lugar de molestar a los visitantes, en aquel pueblo ponían todo su empeño para que pasaran un buen día, pues habían descubierto que hasta un humilde payaso podía enseñarles mucho.

Story
Once upon a time, a juggling clown came to a village. The clown went from town to town, earning a little money from his show. In that village he began his act in the square. While everyone was enjoying the show, a naughty boy started to make fun of the clown, telling him to leave the village. The shouts and insults made the clown nervous, and he dropped one of his juggling balls. Some others in the crowd started booing because of this mistake, and in the end the clown had to leave quickly.
He ran off, leaving four of the juggling balls. But neither the clown nor his juggling balls were in any way ordinary. During that night, each one of the balls magically turned into a naughty boy, just like the one who had shouted the insults. All except one ball, which turned into another clown. For the whole of the next day, the copies of the naughty boy walked round the village, making trouble for everyone. In the afternoon, the copy of the clown started his juggling show, and the same thing happened as the previous day. But, this time, there were four naughty boys shouting, instead of one. Again, the clown had to run off, leaving another four balls behind.
Once more, during the night, three of those balls turned into copies of the naughty boy, and one turned into a clown. And so the same story repeated itself for several days, until the village was filled with naughty boys who would leave no one in peace. The village elders decided to put an end to all this. They made sure that none of the naughty boys would disrespect or insult anyone. When the clown's show began, the elders prevented the boys even making a squeak. So the clown managed to finish his show, and could spend that night in the village.
That night, three of the copies of the naughty boy disappeared, and the same happened until only the clown and the original naughty boy remained.
The boy, and everyone in the village, had been shown just how far they could go. From then on, instead of running visitors away, that village made every effort to make sure that visitors would spend a nice day there. The villagers had discovered just how much a humble travelling clown can teach with his show.

Había una vez una aprendiz de hada madrina, mágica y maravillosa, la más lista y amable de las hadas. Pero era también una hada muy fea, y por mucho que se esforzaba en mostrar sus muchas cualidades, parecía que todos estaban empeñados en que lo más importante de una hada tenía que ser su belleza. En la escuela de hadas no le hacían caso, y cada vez que volaba a una misión para ayudar a un niño o cualquier otra persona en apuros, antes de poder abrir la boca, ya la estaban chillando y gritando:
- ¡fea! ¡bicho!, ¡lárgate de aquí!.
Aunque pequeña, su magia era muy poderosa, y más de una vez había pensado hacer un encantamiento para volverse bella; pero luego pensaba en lo que le contaba su mamá de pequeña:
- tu eres como eres, con cada uno de tus granos y tus arrugas; y seguro que es así por alguna razón especial...
Pero un día, las brujas del país vecino arrasaron el país, haciendo prisioneras a todas las hadas y magos. Nuestra hada, poco antes de ser atacada, hechizó sus propios vestidos, y ayudada por su fea cara, se hizo pasar por bruja. Así, pudo seguirlas hasta su guarida, y una vez allí, con su magia preparó una gran fiesta para todas, adornando la cueva con murciélagos, sapos y arañas, y música de lobos aullando.
Durante la fiesta, corrió a liberar a todas las hadas y magos, que con un gran hechizo consiguieron encerrar a todas las brujas en la montaña durante los siguientes 100 años.
Y durante esos 100 años, y muchos más, todos recordaron la valentía y la inteligencia del hada fea. Nunca más se volvió a considerar en aquel país la fealdad una desgracia, y cada vez que nacía alguien feo, todos se llenaban de alegría sabiendo que tendría grandes cosas por hacer.

We can all achieve great things, and we have within ourselves all that is needed to do so. We should not give such great importance to physical beauty, nor should we want to change only according to how others see us.

Fairies and wit
There was once a fairy who was learning how to be a fairy godmother. Most magic and wonderful, she was the kindest and cleverest of all fairies. However, she was also a very ugly fairy. And no matter how much she showed her wonderful qualities, it seemed that everyone was determined to believe that the most important thing about a fairy was her beauty. In the fairy school they ignored her, and every time she flew off on a mission to help a child or anyone else in trouble, before she could say a word they were already screeching and yelling at her: "Ugly! Get out of here, weirdo!"
Despite her being little, her magic was very powerful, and more than once she had considered using it to make herself beautiful. But then she remembered what her mother had always told her: "My dear, you are what you are, warts and all; and never doubt that you are this way for a very special reason..."
But then, one day, the witches of the neighbouring land invaded and destroyed the country, putting all the fairies and wizards in prison. Our fairy, just before being attacked, put a spell on her own clothes and, helped by her ugly face, she managed to pass for a witch. That way she was able to follow the witches back to their den.
Once there she used her magic to prepare a big party for everyone, decorating the cave with bats, toads and spiders. The music was provided by a pack of howling wolves. While the party was in full swing, the fairy hurried off and set free all the fairies and wizards who had been imprisoned. When all of them were free, they worked together on one big spell which succeeded in trapping the witches inside the mountain for the next hundred years. And for the next hundred years, and more, everyone remembered the great bravery and intelligence of the ugly fairy.
And from that day on no one in that land ever saw ugliness as a disgrace. Whenever someone ugly was born, people were filled with joy, knowing that for that new person great things lay ahead.
